Systems Engineer

Hardware | Up to £50k p.a. | Primarily remote but must have easy access to our London office for some on-site testing

The Role

Pod Point is the leading independent charge point supplier in the UK and we’re looking for an innovative, creative Systems Engineer to jump on board and help us achieve our ambitious growth goals. You will be given the opportunity to take ownership of engineering projects to help with the design of innovative new solutions for the EV market, being able to truly work end to end. The position will report into the Head of Hardware and will be based remotely (however, you will occasionally need to go to our Old Street office for on-site testing).

What you’ll do

  • Work on cross functional projects across electrical, mechanical electronic and embedded firmware
  • Ensure our products are compliant to latest standards
  • Work with our manufacturing partners and subcontractors to develop assembly and test plans and equipment 
  • Help ensure our products are designed for manufacturability
  • Work closely with other members of the hardware team to come up with innovative design solutions for our ever expanding product ranges

What you’ll need

  • Experience using CAD systems such as Solid Works, Catia, NX (Siemens), etc
  • Experience in electrical design
  • The ability to read and generate detailed technical drawings / models
  • Comprehensive knowledge of working with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Knowledge in production processes
  • Good knowledge of materials and their interaction durability 
  • Good knowledge of certification and the specification of testing required to achieve certification
  • An understanding of design for cost principles

Bonus Points

  • Time in a similar role in electrical / connected / smart devices
  • Working knowledge of bill of materials (BOM) 
  • Embedded firmware knowledge
  • Electronic design
  • Engineering Degree / Chartered Engineer Status or seeking
  • You have a dog (which you’d be welcome to bring into the office, as and when you choose to go in)
  • You’re passionate and knowledgeable about climate change, sustainability and/or the EV industry

The socially distant elephant in the room

Our first priority (at all times, but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic) is to make sure we’re not unnecessarily exposing Pod Pointers to potential health risks, so we’re conducting all interviews on Google Meet and are able to onboard new starters remotely too. We also realise it can seem daunting to start a new role remotely (and some people struggle with their mental health when working from home at the best of times) so we do intend to reopen the office as soon as it’s safe to do so, and once we do you will be welcome to use that for work if you prefer. Additionally we’re putting in place some extra initiatives to keep our culture humming (for both “work” and “play”) as we transition to being a remote first company.
