Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Hardware | Up to £65k | Predominantly remote with occasional visits to our London office for some onsite testing.

The Role
We’re looking for an innovative, creative Embedded Software Engineer to join our growing product team and help us achieve our ambitious growth goals. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a passionate team and have a big impact on the entire organisation.
The position will report into the Head of Hardware Engineering and will be based remotely but with some travel to our Old Street Office in London.
What you’ll do
- Implement the standards necessary to produce industry leading charging infrastructure
- Work on upcoming projects and participate in the scoping of work
- Work on existing product family to improve and implement new features
- Support other firmware developers through peer technical reviews
- Support the continuous improvement of firmware development processes
- Work closely with our network team on future product offer and general product improvements
- Support the improvement of our Embedded QA activities
- Support and develop manufacturing tools required to drive quality and improvement of our final products.
What you’ll need
- To be organised and detail-oriented enough to manage projects with many moving parts
- An excellent understanding of C and C++
- Knowledge of compiling, linking and flashing embedded software, including the use of emulators and JTAG
- Significant experience with a range of modern 32 bit MCUs and their associated tool chains.
- Experience working in a multithreaded environmentExperience in common bus protocols like UART, SPI and I2C.
- The ability to review hardware (printed circuit board) schematics and propose software solutions based upon these
- Experience working alongside hardware engineers and collaboratively finding solutions to complex problems
- Experience working with TDD frameworks such as CMocka
- Knowledge of all things Git/Github
- To always be learning new technologies and looking to advance your skills
Bonus Points
- Experience with STM and/or ESP processors
- Experience with Wi-Fi and Cellular technologies
- Experience with Bluetooth technologies
- Comfortable in a linux development environment
- Experience with FreeRTOS
- Interest and experience in Rust for embedded systems
- Prior experience in board bring up, manufacturing line test development is a big plus
- Experience working with oscilloscopes and logic analysers for hardware debugging
- Passionate and knowledgeable about climate change, sustainability and/or the EV industry

Remote first
We’re a “Remote first” company, so we conduct all interviews on Google Meet and are pretty good at onboarding new starters remotely (if we do say so ourselves). We do have our dog friendly (!) London office which you will be welcome to use for work if you prefer - although there will be no requirement for you to do so.
